DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London - West End

92 Southampton Row, Bloomsbury, London WC1B 4BH, UK – 020 7242 2828

I stayed here for my birthday and they upgraded me AND left me a birthday card with a dessert in my room! So special and thoughtful! Loved staying here! It was centrally located in the West end with so many great restaurants near by! And it's in the center of all the theatres and great shopping!

I was there to run a training session with some of the staff, so I wasn't able to see most of the hotel. The staff were smart, welcoming and very professional. The meeting room was very well equipped and perfect for the required needs of the group. Next time I'll make sure I have time to have some food as it looked great.

Residence Inn by Marriott London Bridge

201 - 211 Long Lane, London, London England SE1 4PN, UK – 020 3146 7344

Out of 4 stars, 2 stars for their staff, what an amazing, lovely bunch of people they have. Always smiling, ready to help, guiding you in whatever help you need and strike a small conversation whenever it is needed. Rooms are always clean and supplies are there. If you are facing an issue with the use of any appliance, hotel management promptly sends a help. Although bedroom area is bit smaller but sitting area is large and views are nice. The only thing I feel could be better is slightly larger bedroom area and breakfast. Breakfast is repeatative and limited, which makes it monotonus.

Spending a lot of time in London on business it gets a bit old staying in the normal hotel rooms, so this is a great option. You have additional facilities at relatively the same cost, such as a fridge, microwave and oven. Clean, comfy rooms and pantry on the ground floor providing some food and drinks. Gym on site is a added bonus.

Comfort Inn Kings Cross

2-5 St Chad's St, Kings Cross, London WC1H 8BD, UK – 020 7837 1940

You get what you pay for. The rooms where size wise pretty good. Simple breakfast. Good location - close to the underground and St Pancras International. Rooms didn't feelt so clean.

The location of the hotel was brilliant, a couple of minutes walk from the tube station and really easy to find. The staff were helpful and friendly and check in was really easy. It was a bit of a maze to find our room but we found it okay with directions from the receptionist. Everything was clean and tidy and the beds were really comfortable, the only problem we had was the room smelt slightly damp. Breakfast was a basic continental but still nice enough. I would stay here again, it was quite good value for money

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Harrison Gastro Pub & Hotel

28 Harrison St, Kings Cross, London WC1H 8JF, UK – 020 7278 3966

I had the roast lamb which was very nice but I have had better. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious and worth ten out of ten. However a lot of windows were open and I was cold. Also I found the music far too loud and intrusive. Finally, the service was pleasant and efficient

Went to one of the monthly music sessions that the Harrison hosts, and it was interesting. The event was held in the basement venue, tickets were £8 which for the quality of the music and the musicians that played was pretty stunning as there isn't a bad seat in the house for this. I don't think the seating was more than two tables/four seats deep, so it was like being right up there with whomever was playing, and it didn't make much difference if the sound system had been working or not, Food and drink were available from the regular bar above, so quite literally whatever was available at the regular bar/restaurant above was also available in the basement as well. The food and drink at the Harrison is generally pretty good, but like a lot of other large establishments that are spread out over a big and quirky areas, it's a challenge for staff to serve it in a timely manner depending on the crowd. And it also depends on what staff is working at any particular time as can be seen in some of the reviews that said they had poor service, cold food etc. So it's somewhat the luck of the draw, but the establishment is capable of great food and good service. If you are attending a venue in the basement, it is not handicap accessible but there are bathrooms available here as well as elsewhere in the pub. All in all it's a pretty good venue, and big cudos to the folks at Harrisons for supporting great local music and musicians. They deserve all the support you can give them.

The Driver

2-4 Wharfdale Rd, London N1 9RY, UK – 020 7278 8827

Looking for a nice and trendy pub in the hood? The Driver will leave you with smiles😊. Interesting pub with variety of drinks. seems to be a choice for many with friendly staff.. On a Wednesday and attracting quite a number of pub loving people, I thought about what Friday night would be... Love the sculpture art works around and the 14year old dog (I think owned by one of the friendly staff). Enjoyed the food too, I must add😊. I really loved the food like I already mentioned, I don’t know if I will say that it’s all worth it because it was quite pricey, well I was reminded that in London’s things are not cheap Hehehehe... I would love to go back again. Nicee

Really nice venue to have a private event! I hosted my work Christmas party here and a friend of mine has a had a couple of parties here also. They make it all really easy. Can get a private room, bar and all the equipment for a dj. Also a roof top terrace great even in the winter time

The Princess of Shoreditch

76-78 Paul St, London EC2A 4NE, UK – 020 7729 9270

Excellent service for Sunday lunch today. The food itself was very good (4* rating), but it was so swamped and busy, that they could have easily treated me (on my own) as not worth wasting much time on. But they made a real effort - a really nice pint (Cwtch, from Newport's Tiny Rebel Brewery), a quickly served pork roast, and a comfortable seat with a free newspaper. I'd happily go back again.

Had the Sunday roast. Very good portions could have been hotter but we were a table of eight. Very good service. Would recommend.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Riverside Lets

My wife an I stayed here on a recent city-break to London. The apartment is luxuries, with all the amenities and luxuries you would expect from a top hotel. But self-catering gives you the privacy and the option to eat in or out, which you wouldn't otherwise get. It is in a VERY quiet and picturesque area with great transport links to all the attractions. I wasn't on business this particular trip, but it's a stones throw away from Canary Wharf - albeit across the Thames - so would also make an excellent business base.
